I swear this story is absolutely true.

I was visiting Mark and his kids at his home in Perris CA.,  (1992 we were just dating back then).  I went to the grocery store to get some sodas and snacks.  We were going to watch a rented video.  I think it was "What About Bob".  Anyway, it was dark when I parked my car in his driveway.  Everyone else was inside.  I remember holding a bag in my arms when something caught my eye in the sky.   I stood and stared for several seconds trying to identify what I was seeing.   I couldn't tell what it was.  It didn't look very far away.  In fact I could hear it.   The only way I can describe it is it looked like a ball of fabric on fire.  What I could hear was the sound of fire.  And it was moving slowly.  Too slow for any machine powered aircraft.   I ran inside and called Mark to come out and look at it.  I thought for sure he would know what it was - after all he is a pilot.  He was puzzled too.   I don't know how long afterward, but we eventually learned it was a meteorite that landed on a car in New York that night.   Kind of exciting for us to see it again in the Museum of Natural History here in WA DC.   It's not easy to see, but below in the picture on the left, above the rock is a small photo of the car and the car's owner that it hit in NY.

Here is the actual meteorite that Mark and I saw in the sky

Doesn't sound so incredible now, but before we found out it was a meteorite, we had no explanation for it.
