Sunday July 21
Mark and I took a drive down south. Our first stop we saw Yorktown. This is where the British surrendered to George Washington in the Revolutionary War.
Next we drove on to Colonial Williamsburg, VA . Very hot. Very touristy. For $33 you can buy a ticket that gets you on the tourbus and in most of the museums and attractions. We decided to see it on our own, being the first visit. Could be because it was a Sunday, but there didn't seem to be many events scheduled that day. The blacksmith's shop was interesting. They were pounding out nails and tools that are actually used in the buildings. The employees dress in the period costumes and are suppose to converse and act as they would in colonial times.

Nashay and Brittany @ the Lincoln Memorial |

|
Washington Monument |
Today we took Brittany and Nashay to Washington DC. Mark and I have been there before, but you can never see it all, so we took in some new sights as well as a couple of our favorites. Tours are available, but anyone can see a great deal just by walking around the Mall. First we saw the Washington Monument. The size of this building is incredible. Next we walked to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History (a favorite) and made it a point to see the Hope Diamond. Also saw the meteorite that hit NY in 1992. Mark and I actually witnessed this meterorite as flew through our atmosphere. See Meterorite Story. Saw some dinosaur bones and other things then we went to see the National Archives where the Constitution of the United States and Bill of Rights are kept. Unfortunately it was closed for construction. So we had some lunch and drove to another area of the Mall to see the Jefferson Memorial. Next we drove across the Potomac River to see Arlington National Cemetary (first time) and saw the gravesite of John F. Kennedy. His brother Robert, wife Jackie and 2 children are also buried there. At the head of the gravesite is the Eternal Flame. Still burning. The literature stated that over 275,000 people are buried there. Next we drove back to the Mall to see the Lincoln Memorial and the Viet Nam Wall Memorial. We were exhausted by then and drove home.
